San Antonio Layered Dip expresses the perfect melding of flavors, much like the culture of the city itself.

This layered dip is omnipresent at every holiday celebration throughout the city and South Texas. This is Cat's version that has literally had people fighting for the last chipful. Use a glass dish to enhance the presentation.
1. In a mixing bowl, combine refried beans and taco seasoning. Spread in an even layer in a 9 x 13 inch ovenproof glass dish. Heat under broiler until warm.

2. In a small bowl, mash avocados and add lemon juice and salt. Spread on top of warmed beans. In a separate bowl, mix sour cream and Ranch dressing and dip mix. Layer carefully over avocado mixture.

3. Sprinkle over sour cream layer: chopped tomatoes, black olives and green onions. Finish with grated Cheddar cheese. Serve immediately while beans are warm or refrigerate until ready. Serve with tortilla chips.
* 2 16-ounce cans Refried Beans
* 1 pkg Taco Seasoning mix
* 3-4 large Avocados or 12-16 ounces packaged Avocado
* 2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
* 1/2 tsp Salt
* 16 ounces Sour Cream
* 1 pkg Ranch Dressing and Dip mix
* 1 cup chopped Green Onion with tops
* 2-3 Tomatoes, chopped
* 2 4 1/4 ounce cans pitted, sliced Black Olives
* 8 ounces sharp Cheddar Cheese, grated
* Tortilla Chips
